Atypical antidepressants like mirtazapine- Remeron, and venlafaxine have been beneficial. Mood stabilizers have also been very effective. These stabilizers include carbamazepine- Tegretol, and Lithium.

Sometimes antipsychotics are prescribed for anxiety disorders. The most common antipsychotics are risperidone -Risperal. Antipsychotics help reduce certain symptoms like nightmares, and flashbacks to traumatic events. Prazosin- Minipress, also helps reduce nightmares and can help with sleep problems.
